Bee Venom Therapy
Can Bee Stings Help You?

How can bee stings help with arthritis or other medical conditions?

The treatment use of honeybee venom therapy is based on the long-known fact that bee-keepers (who often get stung) very rarely develop arthritis or problems with their joints and muscles.

In recent years this idea has been developed to the point of using it as deliberate treatment for pain conditions and for some neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis. Bee venom therapy is becoming increasingly common

Scientific researchers have published many studies and research papers on the use of bee stings in treatment or therapy. This type of treatment is quite common in Russia

Bee venom contains many different active chemical compounds. Melittin is the main one and is a very potent anti-inflammation agent. Other chemicals in the venom act as painkillers and alter nerve pathway transmissions.

Bee venom therapy enthusiasts have used it for arthritis, for other inflammation conditions and for the treatment of chronic scar tissue. Recent experiments have begun with some chronic multiple sclerosis (MS) patients.

Bee Venom Treatment - How is Bee Venom Therapy Administered?

Now - the braver amongst you might volunteer for traditional venom therapy or "bee sting therapy" where you are subjected to repeated stings from a succession of bees held in tweezers!

Some doctors obtain the bee venom in glass vials and inject it under the skin of their patients but this may well be even less appealing than the live bee technique.

Side effects of bee venom therapy are generally limited. The idea of the treatment is to deliberately cause some controlled inflammation; swelling and itching. However, the risk of an allergic or severe anaphylactic reaction to bee venom injections or stings is real, and it is always wise to have a bee sting allergy kit on hand.

Most of us would feel more comfortable simply applying the bee sting venom in the form of a balm to be rubbed into the painful or stiff area. Several manufacturers now supply high quality bee venom products including Bee Venom Balm and bee venom creams.

In truth, I was a bit sceptical about all of this at first, but a large number of my patients have had great benefit from its use and I recommend you give it a try if you are interested. It's certainly a very natural way to obtain pain relief.
